DECEMBER, 20259KP GROUP, BOTSWANA GOVT INK MOU FOR 5 GW RENEWABLESIndia's KP Group signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Botswana's Ministry of Minerals and Energy to jointly develop large-scale renewable energy projects. The deal involves an estimated $4 billion (36,000 crore) investment. After President Droupadi Murmu's visit to Botswana, the partnership sets to expand the African nation's renewable capacity to almost 5 GW through solar and wind generation, energy storage systems, and the upgrading of high-voltage transmission infrastructure, including interconnections for regional power exports. The technical and commercial aspects will be spearheaded by KP Group--consisting KPI Green Energy, KP Energy, and KP Green Engineering--through all stages of the project, from the feasibility studies and financing to the construction, commissioning, and operations and maintenance in the long run. The plan will take approximately 25,000 acres of land and aims to provide clean energy for more than 10,000 households while contributing to Botswana's net-zero emissions goal by 2030.Jobs created through the project will be significant: 6,0007,000 positions during the installation stage and 1,500 permanent jobs for 25 years. Furthermore, KP Group pledged to sponsor 30 scholarships yearly for the citizens of Botswana in the areas of renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and other related fields to equip the local people with skills and facilitate the knowledge transfer.Botswana's Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, described the MoU as "a crucial step in Botswana's transition to a sustainable and secure energy future," which focused on rapid clean deployment, regional connectivity, and capacity building. Faruk G.
