GE Vernova to Invest ₹140 Cr to Boost Grid Equipment Manufacturing in India
GE Vernova announced plans to invest Rs 140 crore via its listed Indian subsidiary, GE Vernova T&D India, in expanding its manufacturing presence within the country. The investment plans are part of GE Vernova's effort to serve increasing demand for advanced grid infrastructure.
The expansion plans are expected to further enhance the capacity of GE Vernova T&D India Ltd to manufacture and test core next-generation equipment employed by modern transmission systems in support of India's energy transition and the export needs of similarly fast-developing economies, a company statement noted.
The investment plans will assist GE Vernova to further develop its electrification manufacturing and engineering capabilities in India through the deployment of advanced grid technologies to allow stable, reliable, and secure delivery of electricity, according to a statement.
The investment will be undertaken by GE Vernova T&D India Ltd, the publicly listed entity of GE Vernova's electrification business arm in India. The investment includes a new manufacturing line in the existing GE Vernova facility in Chennai (Pallavaram) and a new facility in Noida.
New expansions will focus on High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) technologies that help to stabilise grid power, reduce losses in power transmission and build interconnections with renewable energy from solar and wind. These systems are essential to deliver renewable energy generated in distant or remote locations to cities, industries, and communities that need them.
At the facility in Noida, GE Vernova T&D India will be building a new engineering and test lab to validate the design and system validation of these solutions while also supplying control systems to assure quality and performance of the solution under real grid conditions.
