  • SECI secures 60 GW in renewable power agreements, boosting investor confidence and clean energy growth.
  • India’s renewable capacity surges, with solar at 105.65 GW and wind at 51 GW as of March 2025.
  • Future focus on energy storage, green hydrogen, and innovative power models to meet the 2030 target of 500 GW.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has surpassed the milestone of 60 gigawatts (GW) of power sale agreements (PSAs) for renewable energy - an important mark on India's journey in clean energy. The PSAs include solar, wind and hybrid projects and all contribute to the growing renewable energy capacity in India.

As a Navratna public sector undertaking, SECI provides long-term power purchase agreements guaranteeing realism or a degree of surety to make payments, for developers and investors.

The financing viability provided builds a sense of security for renewable projects which increase the appeal to gain financial backing from lenders, thus increasing adoption in the renewable energy sector. The PSAs developed by SECI support India in unlocking the potential of renewable energy supplies and speeding up the transition to a lower carbon economy

"The signing of 60 GW worth of Power Sale Agreements within just fourteen years of establishment marks a pivotal moment. The SECI continues to be at the forefront of ensuring that India stays on track to meet its ambitious clean energy targets. We are proud to contribute to the nation’s transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon future", said SECI Chairman & Managing Director Santosh Kumar Sarangi.

Going forward, SECI will focus on energy storage technologies, renewable supply chains, and green hydrogen, green ammonia and new power purchase models that are necessary to achieve national climate goals.

India aims to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Solar energy capacity has grown from 2.82 GW in 2014 to an estimated 105.65 GW of installed capacity by March 2025. Wind energy is now at 51 GW, up from 21 GW in 2014, with 4.15 GW of this added in 2024-25 alone.

Installed bioenergy capacity is now at 11.58 GW, from both off-grid and waste-to-energy installations (0.53 GW). The installed small hydro energy capacity is at 5.10 GW, with another 0.44 GW under development. These sources, among others, contribute to a decentralized and resilient energy system in India.
