Govt Allocates Rs 22,000 Cr for Green Energy Corridors
- ₹10,000 crore allocated for GEC Phase I and ₹12,000 crore for Phase II to enhance renewable energy grid integration
- Phase I upgraded intra-state infrastructure with substations and high-voltage lines, largely completed
- Phase II will add 10,750 km of transmission lines and 22,000 MVA substations, enabling 20 GW renewable integration by 2026
The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, presented evidence of the government's commitment to advancing renewable energy development through its Green Energy Corridor programs.
The government has announced a ₹22,000 crore allocation for Green energy corridor India to support Renewable energy projects India, with Pralhad Joshi’s statement highlighting the development of Green energy infrastructure, Power transmission India, Renewable energy corridors, Government energy funding, Clean energy India, and India’s broader Energy transition India.
The schemes received funding of ₹10,000 crore for their first phase and ₹12,000 crore for their second phase. The minister stated, “Green Energy Corridor [GEC] Phase I is under implementation in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu for grid integration and power evacuation of about 24 GW of RE”.
GEC Phase II will provide grid connection capacity and power transmission capacity for approximately 20 gigawatts of renewable energy facilities, which will operate in seven states: Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.

The Green Energy Corridor projects serve as the primary element of the government's plan to upgrade and enhance national and state transmission systems, which will enable efficient transmission of electricity generated by solar and wind facilities located in distant resource-rich areas to major electricity demand centers while preventing grid overload.
The two phases of the scheme include Green Energy Corridor-I (Intra-State GEC), approved in FY15–16, and Green Energy Corridor–II (Inter-State GEC), sanctioned in FY22–23.
The first phase of the project built new substations and high-voltage transmission lines, which used 400 kV, 220 kV and grid stability devices, which help manage reactive power. Most of these projects have been largely completed.
The second phase of the project focuses on developing interstate transmission systems, which enable the movement of renewable energy resources between different states and regions while creating a stable and resilient national power grid system.
The plan includes establishing approximately 10,750 circuit km of transmission lines, adding 22,000 MVA of substation capacity, and prioritizing integration from solar parks and wind zones.
The government aims to complete all Phase II targets by the end of 2026, further strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure and supporting its clean energy transition.
