  • H&H Aluminium invests ₹150 crore to set up India’s largest solar frame plant in Rajkot, aiming to cut 90–95% import dependence.
  • The facility uses advanced Chinese machinery despite anti-dumping duties.
  • It targets ₹700–750 crore annual revenue and will create 300 local jobs.

H&H Aluminium Pvt Ltd, based in Gujarat, has established the largest aluminium frame manufacturing plant for solar modules in India, located in Rajkot, with an investment of ₹150 crore.

The plant, with an annual capacity of 24,000 tonnes, began its trial production in June 2025 at the 28,000 square meter facility in Chibhda village. Commercial production is expected to begin within the next month. Once fully operational, the plant is projected to generate annual sales of ₹700-750 crore.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Ahmedabad, was attended by CR Patil, the Gujarat BJP President and Union Jal Shakti Minister. During the event, Uttam Patel, Director of H&H Aluminium Pvt Ltd, explained that the company’s initial aim is to match the quality standards set by China.

He noted that pricing and quality had been major challenges for the growth of indigenous production of aluminium frames for solar modules in India. “The quality (of domestic production) is not at par with that of China,” Patel remarked.

Regarding the technology used in manufacturing the aluminium frames, Patel mentioned that the large machinery required for the plant has been imported from China. “The entire production line has been imported which includes aluminium extrusion presses and anodising lines,” he said. Patel also pointed out that although this facility is small relative to India’s needs, there are plans for gradual expansion.

The new plant comes at a time when India is heavily reliant on imports for aluminium frames used in solar panels, with approximately 90-95% of these frames being sourced from abroad.

This dependency has been further affected by the Indian government’s decision in September 2024 to impose an anti-dumping duty on anodised aluminium frames for solar modules imported from China. The duty, which ranges from $403 to $577 per tonne, applies to imports from specific Chinese manufacturers and non-specified exporters.

Patel expressed confidence that the government’s support would benefit the project: “This anti-dumping duty came after we had bought land and machinery for the project. We knew the government would help.” For sourcing the aluminium required for production, the company will rely on National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) and Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (BALCO).

“As we have just commenced our trial production, we have given only a trial order. But monthly we will require about 2,000 tonnes of aluminium ingots for our monthly operations,” Patel added.

This plant is expected to provide employment opportunities for 300 individuals, contributing to local job creation in the area.
