BEL Signs MoU With Astra Microwave for EW, Satcom Systems
- BEL and AMPL collaborate to design advanced defense electronics in India
- The partnership targets Electronic Warfare, radar, and satellite systems
- The alliance strengthens India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna638 PSU, has signed an agreement with Astra Microwave Products Limited (AMPL) to work together in the area of defense and aerospace electronics manufacturing.
The companies want to use the agreement for the development of indigenous advanced technology and to boost the production capacity of the defense industry in India.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between them for the purpose of designing and building advanced electronic systems that will be done through Indian expertise and facilities. The main areas of focus will be Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, radar systems, and satellite-based technologies, which are all considered as critical for the security of the nation.

Together with their respective strengths, BEL and AMPL have a plan to supply modern, high-performance defense electronics that come in the form of subsystems and full systems which are all designed and manufactured in India.
As per the MoU, the two companies involved are going to collaborate and make electronic modules and systems together, which will make India's advanced defense electronics capability more robust. This cooperation will not only help the government to build up its stockpiles of indigenous materials but also provide a significant boost to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the mainstay of which is defense manufacturing.
On the other hand, BEL, whose mainline is defense electronics and system integration, with its vast experience, will support AMPL’s Electronic System Design and Manufacturing expertise. Their intention is to produce next-generation solutions not only for the Indian Armed Forces but also for other important areas.
The alliance will not only bring in the latest technologies but also share the know-how among the stakeholders in the public and private sectors and promote collaborations. The collaboration will not only bring a major shift in the Indian defense manufacturing ecosystem but also be a big factor in securing the nation.
