Build Future-Ready Talent to Boost Manufacturing: Vaishnaw

Union Minister for Railways and Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, called for a collective effort to develop talent as well as capabilities for the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ project.

The Minister spoke with industry leaders and academia at the roundtable and pointed out that stakeholders should accelerate the development of a future-ready workforce to propel India’s manufacturing.

The roundtable discussion was to develop talent and develop capacity for sustainable manufacturing while connecting a global context with local initiatives.

The Minister remarked upon the emergence of a new sector, Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology (MET), from NAMTECH (New Age Makers Institute of Technology), the MET Innovation School.

This initiative is designed to address challenges associated with Industry 4.0 and beyond, with a focus on identifying and bridging the talent gap in new technologies, and to develop a capable workforce and future leaders who can drive transformative change in India.

Vaishnaw acknowledged the MIT delegation, who attended the meeting, and introduced them as some of the best in the world and the goal is to make it the best institute for advanced manufacturing.

The government has commenced several mission-based initiatives such as the India Semiconductor Mission, AI Mission, National Robotics Strategy, Mobility Manufacturing Mission, and National Hydrogen Mission which emphasizes the government's focus in the areas of advanced technology development and deployment.

As indicated in the National Education Policy 2020, there is a focus on holistic development while including vocational and digital education in formal schooling.

Apart from the above, there are also other frameworks focused on talent through Skill India Digital Hub, ITI Upgradation Scheme, Chip to Startup, and the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) which focus on the development of inclusive, industry aligned skills development models.

MeitY is committed to continue supporting ecosystem-based initiatives that address critical skill gaps, expand access to advanced technology education, and address India's competitiveness in the global landscape of electronics and manufacturing.

The meeting also included the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between NAMTECH and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) in Vadodara.
