In a move to strengthen bilateral relations, a high-level Indian delegation led by Raja Bhanu, Director General of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil), and supported by Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K. Reddy, recently met key stakeholders in Egypt’s pharmaceutical sector.

The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between India and Egypt in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, marking an important development in trade & investment ties between the two countries.

The Indian delegation, comprising senior executives from the pharmaceutical industry, explored opportunities for joint ventures, technology transfer and capacity building in Egypt’s expanding pharmaceutical market.

Egypt’s pharmaceutical market is projected to grow from $5.1 billion in 2024–2025 to $5.7 billion in 2025–2026, offering significant opportunities in segments such as generic medicines, biosimilars and vaccines, where Indian companies have strong expertise.

Ambassador Reddy expressed confidence in the growing partnership, saying, “India has long been a trusted partner in the global pharmaceutical industry, and Egypt’s dynamic healthcare sector presents an ideal opportunity for enhanced cooperation.”

“The embassy is committed to facilitating partnerships between Indian pharmaceutical companies and their Egyptian counterparts, ensuring that the benefits of our collaboration are felt not only in our two countries but across the broader MENA region,” he added.

Raja Bhanu highlighted India’s ability to support Egypt’s pharmaceutical ambitions, noting that India is globally recognised for producing high-quality and affordable medicines.

“As Egypt continues to expand its healthcare coverage and local manufacturing capabilities, Indian companies are well-positioned to collaborate with Egyptian firms, contributing to the shared goal of ensuring access to essential healthcare products for all citizens,” Bhanu said.

The cooperation is expected to cover areas including generic drugs, clinical research, biotechnology and vaccine production. Both sides are exploring joint manufacturing and research initiatives to help position Egypt as a regional hub for pharmaceutical production and trade.

The meeting also marked the launch of several initiatives aimed at encouraging investment, promoting knowledge sharing and advancing healthcare innovation.

Pharmexcil, India’s export promotion council for pharmaceuticals, drugs and healthcare, was established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to support exporters, promote pharmaceutical exports and improve global market access. With more than 4,679 members, the council assists companies in expanding overseas and connects international buyers with Indian pharmaceutical firms.

The Indian embassy and Pharmexcil will continue to work together to strengthen India–Egypt pharmaceutical cooperation, with a focus on leveraging shared expertise, investment opportunities and long-term industry growth.
