  • Ericsson partners with VVDN to expand manufacturing in India.
  • India to fully localize passive antenna production by June 2025.
  • Move boosts 5G rollout and strengthens global supply chain.

Ericsson, a Swedish telecommunications company, is increasing its operational footprint in India through a partnership with the Indian electronics contract manufacturer VVDN.

This partnership adds India to the list of countries where Ericsson has manufacturing operations, including Mexico, Romania, and China, and there will also be some antennas produced in India that will then be exported outside of India.

This is also a further consolidation of India's importance in the supply chain for Ericsson at the global level, and will allow Ericsson to plan product development while integrating regional customer needs into the development process.

Ericsson has the goal of fully localizing the production of passive antennas for the Indian market by June 2025. Ericssons' localization strategy is anticipated to further benefit both Engdom, the technology partnership and collaboration local companies, and ultimately engage the market demands for speed and responsiveness.

Furthermore, this partnership also makes a small contribution to the continued deployment of 5G in India while at the same time improving Erikson's global supply chain and operational efficiencies at home.

Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System said, "Antennas are the starting point of network operations. Our work in India improves delivery and brings operations closer to customers".

"This step marks our continued presence in India’s industrial and network sectors. With local production and a wider support system, we aim to meet demand and address challenges across the supply chain", added Nitin Bansal, Managing Director, Ericsson India.

Ericsson has a long history in India, beginning operations in 1903 and starting its local manufacturing operations in 1994. Since then, it has worked with major Indian telecom service providers to deploy networks and adopt technologies such as the Ericsson Radio System, and early trials of 5G.

The new Ericsson Antenna System (EAS) production buildout in India is on the basis of Ericsson's teams on the ground, working with suppliers, to maintain global standards while allowing for quick, agile response to changes in the sector, thereby enhancing India’s status in telecom manufacturing.
