Foxconn to Make iPhone Enclosures in TN Amid Apple's India Expansion
- Apple is expanding local manufacturing in India, with Foxconn making iPhone enclosures in Tamil Nadu.
- The move cuts reliance on China, speeds supply, and boosts exports.
- Suppliers like Jabil are scaling up, adding AirPods casing units.
Apple is strengthening their commitment to India by increasing local production and assembly across the entirety of its product line. With increasing uncertainty in China, Apple has been increasingly moving manufacturing to India for US-market-bound products. It now appears that Apple is about to ramp up local assembly of a key component of the iPhone — the metal chassis.
While Tata Electronics is already significantly producing cases for the iPhone in India, reports suggest Foxconn is preparing to get into action as well. Foxconn will establish a dedicated business to produce the iPhone enclosure at the ESR Industrial Park in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu.

Foxconn is one of Apple's biggest contract manufacturers and already assembles iPhones in Sriperumbudur and AirPods in Hyderabad, while also preparing to significantly expand iPhone assembly close to Bengaluru. This is the first instance of Foxconn Isle manufacture the casing for iPhones in India and will likely increase the local value of production by 2-3%.
While this shift may not directly impact iPhone prices, it could support Apple in increasing its market availability and strengthening its export potential. The new unit is reported to be under construction, although the announced opening is still unclear.
Additionally, Foxconn is reported to be introducing another unit at the same location for iPhone display modules. Apple is also seeking to expand production in India for plastic enclosures for AirPods. Another Apple supplier, Jabil, is to establish a new facility in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, bringing Jabil's existing operations to include AirPods casing in Pune.
