
GAIL, RailTel Join Forces to Boost India's Digital Backbone

GAIL (India) Limited and RailTel Corporation of India Limited have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on strengthening digital infrastructure and communication networks across the country.
The agreement focuses on improving nationwide connectivity and supporting technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced data networks and digital services. Both companies plan to combine their infrastructure capabilities to support the development of communication networks and digital systems.
The MoU was signed by S. S. Agrawal, Executive Director (O&M-CO) at GAIL, and J. S. Marwah, Company Secretary and General Manager (Law) at RailTel. The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both organisations, including Rajeev Kumar Singhal, Director (Business Development) at GAIL, and Sanjai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of RailTel.

The collaboration aims to utilise the existing infrastructure assets of both companies to support digital connectivity initiatives in different parts of the country. RailTel operates a telecom infrastructure network along railway routes, while GAIL has an extensive pipeline and energy infrastructure network that can support digital communication systems.
Deepak Gupta said the partnership aligns with the company’s long-term vision of integrating energy infrastructure with digital technologies.
He highlighted that leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced communication networks will help build a stronger infrastructure ecosystem and support India’s ongoing digital transformation.
Sanjai Kumar emphasized that the collaboration will contribute significantly to strengthening India’s communication infrastructure.
RailTel operates one of the country’s largest neutral telecom infrastructure networks along railway routes. By combining RailTel’s connectivity network with GAIL’s infrastructure assets, the partnership aims to expand secure and reliable digital connectivity across urban and rural regions.
Under the MoU, the companies plan to work together on several initiatives, including strengthening national communication infrastructure, improving resource utilization between the two organisations, expanding secure digital connectivity and supporting emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence-based networks and digital services.
The collaboration comes as India continues to expand its digital infrastructure to support increasing demand for connectivity, digital services and data-driven technologies.
