
India Joins BRICS Centre to Boost Manufacturing Sector
- India joins the BRICS Centre for Industrial Competencies (BCIC) to support manufacturing and MSMEs with Industry 4.0 capabilities
- The National Productivity Council (NPC) will lead India’s BCIC initiatives on capacity building and productivity enhancement
- Participation formalized via a trust fund agreement with UNIDO, attended by senior officials and FICCI representatives
India has become a member of the BRICS Centre for Industrial Competencies (BCIC), which serves as a comprehensive support center for manufacturing businesses and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that operate in all BRICS countries while specializing in Industry 4.0 technology.
The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) established BCIC as a program in 2025 to assist member countries with industrial development through technology adoption and productivity improvement efforts.
India became a member of BCIC through the establishment of a trust fund agreement which the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) signed with UNIDO. Economic Adviser of DPIIT Agrim Kaushal and UNIDO Director Cristiano Pasini signed the agreement which established India s framework for working with BCIC.
The National Productivity Council (NPC) has received its designation as India's Centre for BRICS Industrial Competencies under this framework. NPC will lead India's participation in BCIC initiatives according to DPIIT policy while UNIDO provides technical support and the organization works on capacity building, productivity improvement and advanced manufacturing technology implementation.

The event took place with Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia from DPIIT presiding over the proceedings together with Director General Neerja Sekhar from NPC and high-ranking DPIIT officials and officials from the Ministry of MSME, the Ministry of External Affairs, UNIDO representatives and industry partners which included the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
The partnership between the two organizations demonstrates India's dedication to achieving industrial excellence while utilizing international best practices and BRICS partnerships to support both technological progress in manufacturing and the growth of MSMEs.
