  • Initiative aims to cut post-harvest losses and build a low-carbon supply chain

The Japan-based Innovation Thru Energy (ITE) and IceBattery India launched their IceBattery Rail and Land Cold Chain Technology at Bharat Mandapam for their mission to improve sustainable logistics between India and Japan.

The India cold chain industry is set to gain momentum with IceBattery India driving Indo-Japan industrial tech collaboration to enhance food processing logistics India and pharma supply chain India through advanced cold storage technology, supporting Make in India logistics and promoting sustainable refrigeration India.

The initiative, which commenced on Japan Foundation Day, aims to develop energy-efficient and climate-resilient solutions which will modernize India's cold chain systems.

The technology maintains stable temperature conditions for perishable items during shipment because it does not require ongoing electricity or diesel-based refrigeration systems, which results in decreased operating expenses and lower environmental impact.

The event featured ITE and Kalyani Cast Tech signing a Memorandum of Understanding supporting container manufacturing through the Make in India program that promotes domestic production and localization efforts.

The need for technologies which can be implemented at a large scale and produce low carbon emissions, together with India's environmental goals, according to Pankaj Garg, who serves as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ITE and Senior Advisor Tadamasa Ishida.

The solution, which Sanjay Swarup presented at Container Corporation of India, will improve rail-based freight operations while decreasing energy requirements.

The event attracted senior officials from both Japan and India, who included representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan External Trade Organization, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Agriculture, and Solar Energy Corporation of India.

The initiative reaches a major milestone through its technology demonstration and ribbon-cutting ceremony, which establishes a modern and emission-efficient supply chain system that helps India's agricultural and pharmaceutical industries decrease post-harvest waste.
