
Mahindra, Sumitomo Team Up with Osaka to Boost TN Investments

Mahindra Industrial Park Chennai Limited (MIPCL) and Japan Sumitomo Corporation signed a cooperation agreement with Osaka Prefecture and the Osaka Industrial Development Bureau to promote Japanese investments in Tamil Nadu, India.
The cooperation agreement aims to support Osaka-based companies to expand in India and to potentially set up Tamil Nadu as the preferred industrial location.
As part of the cooperation agreement, MIPCL and Sumitomo will play the role of physical facilitators for Japanese companies looking to explore opportunities in India. Their role will include arranging site visits and providing advice to companies who want to do business in India, as well as a series of joint seminars in Osaka. Osaka, on the other hand, will identify and recommend companies that are interested in Indonesia, and assist them in awareness of the regulatory framework.

India's anticipated GDP growth of 6.3% for FY2025 and rising relevance in international manufacturing supply chains are attracting foreign investments into India. Chennai, which has strong port connections and industrial clusters, is fundamental for the automotive, electronics, and semiconductor sectors.
Origins by Mahindra, an industrial park located in Chennai, currently has six Japanese companies and offers full infrastructure solutions. Given their experience with regulations, MIPCL will guide new investors through the land purchasing process, government approvals, and ultimately getting them operational.
Amit Kumar Sinha, MD & CEO of Mahindra Lifespaces, stated that this partnership in order to develop infrastructure for advanced industries aligns with India's aspirations on industrial growth, as well as demonstrating a need for a public-private partnership model.
According to Vikram Goel, Chief Business Officer – Industrial, Origins by Mahindra will offer an integrated ecosystem to satisfy the requirements of global manufacturers and will contribute towards promoting Chennai as an appealing destination for industrial investment.
