Marco Rubio to Visit Ambani's Gujarat Refinery Amid US Fuel Surge
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery during his India trip, amid rising U.S. diesel prices and efforts to expand energy cooperation and commercial ties.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to visit Reliance Industries’ refinery complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, during his India trip from October 17 to 22, 2026, as Washington seeks to strengthen commercial ties and explore opportunities for energy cooperation. The visit comes as rising diesel prices in the United States increase pressure to secure adequate fuel supplies.
The Jamnagar facility, operated by Reliance Industries and associated with chairman Mukesh Ambani, is the world’s largest single-site refining complex, with crude processing capacity of approximately 1.4 million barrels per day. Its scale and export-oriented operations make it an important player in global petroleum markets.

U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has indicated that Rubio will meet Reliance representatives in Jamnagar and suggested that Ambani could attend. The visit is expected to focus on commercial investment and economic cooperation, alongside discussions with senior Indian officials in Mumbai. Rubio is not scheduled to visit New Delhi during this trip, according to reports.
The visit also highlights Reliance’s growing business links with the United States. The company is associated with plans for a major new refinery project in Brownsville, Texas, which has drawn attention from the Trump administration as part of efforts to expand domestic refining capacity. Reliance is also a significant buyer of Venezuelan crude oil, adding to its relevance in discussions around global oil supply and energy trade.
The United States has faced elevated diesel prices, affecting sectors such as trucking, agriculture and shipping. Analysts cited in reports have pointed to Jamnagar’s refining capacity as a potential source of refined petroleum products, including diesel, for international markets. However, the visit itself does not confirm any new fuel supply agreement.
