A Technology Collaboration Agreement (TCA) has been signed between the Indian firm NIBE Limited and Israeli defence giant Elbit Systems to manufacture the latest Universal Rocket Launcher (SURYA) in India, according to an official release recently.

This will be the very first time that the very sophisticated SURYA system, which has the potential to literally hit targets 300 km away, will be constructed locally. This collaboration is expected to enhance India's defence manufacturing capabilities while expanding its footprint in defence markets all over the world.

"NIBE Limited ("The Company") has entered into a Technology Collaboration Agreement with Elbit Systems, a Leading Israeli Defense Company for Advanced Universal Rocket Launcher Manufacturing", stated the official statement.

With this agreement, NIBE will provide local production and subsequently supply the SURYA launcher, which is a new next-generation advanced system with precision accuracy over long distances as well as battlefield adaptability.

Elbit Land Systems, a division of Elbit Systems Ltd., has decades of experience in advanced defence systems, including artillery systems, armoured platforms, unmanned platforms, and combat vehicle upgrades. They are recognized for their robust, combat-proven systems, which assist armed forces around the globe in terms of operational effectiveness.

The technology transfer is a major step forward to collectively enhance India's defence self-reliance from an import-substitution approach. The local production of SURYA will advance technology development and employment, and enhance India's status as a strategic defence exporter.

The partnership also positions NIBE as an up-and-coming player in global defence manufacturing, along with the SURYA system bringing forth an evolution in modern warfare technologies.
