Bihar approves Patna’s first tech park in Gardanibagh, aiming to attract over 100 companies and create 5,000 jobs while strengthening IT, IT-enabled services and electronics manufacturing.

The Bihar Cabinet has approved an agreement with NBCC (India) Ltd to establish the state’s first technology park in Gardanibagh, Patna, with the project expected to attract investments from more than 100 companies and generate over 5,000 direct employment opportunities. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.

According to an official statement from the Bihar Information Technology Department, the cabinet has approved the selection of NBCC on a nomination basis under the Bihar Finance (Amendment) Rules and authorised the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the company.

The technology park aims to strengthen Bihar’s information technology (IT), IT-enabled services (ITES), and electronic systems design and manufacturing (ESDM) sectors. The project will be developed under the Bihar IT Policy, 2024, and the Bihar Global Capability Centres (GCC) Policy, 2026, to attract investment and create employment opportunities for local youth.

The initiative is expected to encourage technology companies to establish operations in Bihar, expand the state’s industrial ecosystem and provide skilled professionals with more career opportunities closer to home. It also aligns with the state government’s efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure and attract private sector investment.

In another decision, the cabinet approved a revised allocation of ₹225 crore for acquiring 49.9973 acres of land for a logistics park and cargo hub near Darbhanga International Airport. The allocation was increased from the earlier ₹138 crore due to higher land compensation costs. The project is expected to improve the transportation of agricultural produce from Mithila and north Bihar to markets across the country.

The cabinet also approved the Rural Road Maintenance and Management Programme to ensure regular repair, renewal and maintenance of rural roads whose initial five-year maintenance periods have ended or are nearing completion.

Additionally, the government approved measures to extend the Information Technology Department’s operations to regional and district levels. The move aims to improve the implementation and monitoring of government IT projects, strengthen coordination at divisional, district and block levels, and accelerate the digitisation of public services.

Together, these decisions focus on expanding Bihar’s technology sector, improving infrastructure and creating more employment and economic opportunities across the state.
