  • Tata AutoComp & Skoda Group form JV for rail propulsion systems in India.
  • Converters and drives to be manufactured locally for trains and metros.
  • European tech meets Indian production for sustainable mobility solutions.

Tata AutoComp Systems has partnered with Czech Republic's Skoda Group that will help manufacture railway propulsion systems and components locally in India. The deal involves a multi-million euro investment and represents a step forward towards making India a more competitive country in the railway and metro components business.

The newly formed entity, jointly owned by both companies, has been established to develop converters, drives and auxiliary converters for a range of rail applications, including medium- to high-speed trains, metros and light rail. The entire manufacturing scope will be carried out in India, to support the country's "Make in India" initiative.

According to Arvind Goel, Vice-Chairman of Tata AutoComp,“This partnership will strengthen our position in the Indian Railways and Metro projects through deploying advanced electric propulsion systems and components.” Meanwhile, Petr Novotny, CEO and Chairman of the Board at Skoda Group, highlighted their ability to transfer European technology to India – "This is what we're doing, bringing our proven, advanced technologies used across Europe, to India through Tata AutoComp."

The Skoda Group has established itself as a provider of mobility solutions covering the complete range, including low-floor trams, electric locomotives, metro trains, electric buses, and trolleybuses. The Skoda Group has extensive expertise developing and manufacturing electrical equipment for rolling stock, which is now going to be adapted for Indian manufacturing through this JV.

Tata AutoComp will produce in India with the support and technical expertise of Skoda. This collaboration will enhance Tata AutoComp’s rail ambitions and product portfolio. Importantly, Tata AutoComp already supplies seating systems for Vande Bharat trains in India. The collaboration plans to innovate in the delivered passenger seat with respect to sustainable, affordable mobility in India’s increasing rolling stock and metro infrastructure.
