Apple and Samsung are reportedly considering relocating additional global production to India, citing the increased import tariffs implemented by President Donald Trump as a potential reason.

With the US now imposing a 54 per cent duty on imports from China; a 46 per cent duty on imports from Vietnam; and a 26 per cent duty on imports from India, India now appears to be the most plausible manufacturing base of the three countries for US shipments. Apple has manufactured iPhones in India for some time and new reporting by The Times of India indicates it may shift away from reliance on manufacturing lines in China.

"India's factories will be increasingly used to ship only to the US. Demand in other markets such as Europe, Latin America and even Asia will now be catered to from the China factories. In a way, this will be a significant leapfrogging for iPhone production in India and may lead to major expansion in the country, if Apple decides to stick to the formula going forward," a top industry official told The Times of India.
