- India, France review defence and nuclear cooperation
- Focus on co-production, tech collaboration, energy ties
- Strengthens strategic partnership amid global uncertainties
India and France did a thorough review of their defence and civil nuclear cooperation which reiterates their deepening strategic partnership even when the global security and energy situation is changing. The review was done through diplomatic high-level meetings in which the two sides looked back at their collaboration and came up with ideas on how to further the strengthening of relationships in the most important areas.
The main focus was on defence cooperation which included joint development, co-production and maintenance of state-of-the-art military platforms showing a move away procurement to deep industrial collaboration. This interaction further strengthens the strategic partnership between the two countries which has recently been raised to a wider and more ambitious level.
One of the most important areas was defence industrial cooperation where both countries have looked back in joint programmes like aircraft manufacturing, missile systems and submarines. Such talks also shine a spot on the need for improving interoperability, increasing the number of joint exercises, and making defence production supply chains more robust. This goes well with India's indigenization drive and France's position as a technology partner.

Civil nuclear cooperation was highlighted as a major area of focus of the discussions. Both sides took stock of their work together on their nuclear energy partnerships that have been in the pipeline for a long time, among other nuclear energy projects.
They also looked at ways how they can increase their cooperation along the entire nuclear supply chain from fundamental research and technology development to large-scale power generation. Nuclear power is still the main source of India's clean energy for the future, with France being a key partner in helping India expand its capacity and introducing new technologies.
The talks also addressed the geopolitical situation at large. The countries discussed the situation in West Asia and its impact on global energy markets as well as security. They recognize the need for joint measures to respond to new challenges and to maintain stability in a world that is increasingly volatile.
From a strategic perspective, the review underscores the growing convergence between India and France as like-minded partners in defence, energy, and global governance. Their cooperation extends beyond bilateral interests to shaping a multipolar world order, with a shared focus on resilience, technological advancement, and strategic autonomy.
