Synopsis:  UAE is in talks with India to acquire BrahMos and Akashteer defence systems. The potential deal highlights growing India-UAE defence cooperation and India’s expanding role in global defence exports.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is engaged in discussions with India to acquire advanced defence systems, including the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and the Akashteer air defence system. The development reflects the strengthening strategic and defence partnership between the two countries.

The talks are currently at an initial stage, with the UAE showing interest in some of India’s key indigenous and jointly developed military technologies. The potential procurement is expected to enhance the UAE’s defence capabilities while supporting India’s objective of expanding its defence exports to friendly nations.

The BrahMos missile, developed through a joint venture between India and Russia, is among the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missiles. It can be deployed from land, sea, and air platforms, offering precision strike capabilities and operational flexibility. Any export agreement involving BrahMos requires necessary approvals due to its joint development framework.

The UAE is also exploring the Akashteer air defence system, which is designed to improve coordination and automation in air defence operations. Developed by Bharat Electronics Limited along with the Indian Army, the system supports real-time monitoring, threat identification, and response coordination.

The possible defence deal comes amid growing India-UAE cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, energy, technology, and security. Both nations have been working towards expanding their strategic relationship through defence collaboration, military exchanges, and industrial partnerships.

India has been actively promoting its defence manufacturing capabilities under the “Make in India” initiative. Defence exports have increased in recent years as Indian-made platforms and systems attract interest from international partners.

The UAE’s interest in Indian defence equipment highlights the increasing global recognition of India’s defence technology sector. It also demonstrates India’s growing role as a supplier of advanced military systems in the international market.

If finalised, the agreement could become a significant milestone in India-UAE defence ties and further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in strategic and security domains.
