Piyush Goyal, the Commerce and Industry Minister, said that while Artificial Intelligence (AI) poses immediate challenges for job generation, it presents huge opportunities for India, noting he believes it will lead to an increase in job generation.
Speaking at an industry event in New Delhi, Goyal said that while critics are worried about AI reducing jobs; India is looking fully at the opportunities presented by the new technologies including AI, and that AI would present several issues that only a person would be able to address ie. unethical use of AI, and ultimately lead to more job generation based on the "nimbleness" and intelligence of workers in India.
Goyal required office decision-makers to install the latest AI tools like ChatGPT on their devices as long as anything generated by AI would be clearly identified and verified. Goyal states AI is “an idea whose time has come,” emphasizing that while AI has the potential to transform industries, it cannot completely displace humans, only temporarily disruption due to ethical issues.

Goyal is correct that optimism Outlook corresponds to India's governmental push to develop AI, disperse across entire sectors, and also that the workers have been projected to make significant job growth in AI-based jobs - Bain & Company predicts that AI specialty jobs could exceed 2.3 million by 2027, including the significant amount of work to reskill people.
The comments of the minister show a strategic intent by promoting India as a global AI hub effectively using the talent in place to drive innovation. The minister viewed embracing AI as a tool for progress, emphasizing it as a driving force for sustainable and long-term economic development, ultimately leading to the creation of new jobs.
