Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd, formerly Amara Raja Batteries Ltd, declared that it intends to double its initially proposed capacity of 16 GWh for the manufacturing of battery cells for electric vehicles (EVs) to over 30 GWh by 2035.

This despite the fact that the company is already prepared to begin phase one of commercial production of its 5GWh EV battery pack assembly facility in Mahbubnagar's Divitipally shortly.

“We committed to govt to set up a 16GWh EV battery cell manufacturing and 5GWh of battery pack assembly in phase-1 but by 2035 we expect to have over 30GWh of cell manufacturing and around 5-6GWh of pack assembly,” Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies chief operations officer (COO) Niranjan C said.

“We acquired land through govt support and the groundwork for multiple gigafactories has started. Of the 5GWh pack assembly capacity, 1.5GWh facility is almost ready for starting commercial production. Maybe in the next one or two months we will be inaugurating it,” Niranjan explained.

In the Indian storage battery industry, Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited, the main firm of the Amara Raja Group, is a technology pioneer and one of the largest manufacturers of lead-acid batteries for industrial and automotive applications. They are favored by major telecom service providers, telecom service providers, the UPS sector (OEM and Replacement), Indian Railways, and Power, Oil, and Gas, among other industry segments.
