Synopsis:   Union Home Minister Amit Shah launches the Land Port Management System (LPMS) on June 9, introducing a digital framework to modernise border operations, enhance security, and streamline trade and passenger movement.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, is set to launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) in New Delhi on June 9, marking a significant step in India’s efforts to modernise border management through technology-driven solutions. The initiative is aimed at strengthening border security while improving the efficiency, transparency, and coordination of cross-border trade and passenger movement.

The LPMS is being introduced as an integrated digital platform that connects operations across India’s land ports into a unified system. Designed to facilitate secure and real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information, the platform brings land port operations closer to the advanced digital standards already implemented at airports and seaports. By creating a common digital ecosystem, the government seeks to enhance operational efficiency and reduce procedural delays.

One of the key features of the LPMS is its end-to-end digital workflow for cargo and passenger processing. The system incorporates services such as slot booking, online payments, vehicle tracking, and single-window clearances, enabling faster and more transparent border operations. It is also integrated with major national digital platforms, including ICEGATE, ULIP, and the motor vehicle ecosystem, ensuring seamless coordination among various government agencies and private stakeholders.

The launch reflects the government’s broader vision of establishing smart and technology-enabled border infrastructure. Alongside the unveiling of LPMS, Shah will inaugurate newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki land port in Meghalaya and the Srimantapur land port in Tripura, further strengthening support infrastructure for border personnel and associated stakeholders.

Developed under the supervision of the Land Ports Authority of India, the LPMS is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing trade facilitation, regional connectivity, and national security. The initiative aligns with India’s ongoing efforts to build a modern, digitally empowered border management framework capable of supporting growing trade volumes while ensuring robust security oversight.
