They also recognised the importance of people-to-people connections between the two countries and expressed confidence that continued joint efforts would contribute to meaningful cooperation in areas of shared interest. The Bangladesh High Commission shared details of the meeting on social media.

Hamidullah assumed charge as Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India in April 2025 and is concluding an 18-month tenure in New Delhi. He is set to take up a new diplomatic assignment in Geneva as Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

During his tenure, Hamidullah had engaged with Indian officials on strengthening bilateral relations and maintaining institutional communication between the neighbouring countries. On October 4, he said his efforts during his tenure had focused on advancing Bangladesh-India relations based on mutual trust, dignity and shared interests.

Hamidullah’s departure comes amid efforts by India and Bangladesh to maintain structured engagement on bilateral matters. India has said it remains committed to a positive, constructive and forward-looking relationship with Bangladesh and is prepared to address bilateral issues through existing mechanisms.

Hamidullah is expected to be succeeded in New Delhi by Asad Alam Siam, who received India’s formal consent for his appointment as Bangladesh’s next High Commissioner on September 22.
