Chipmaking Equipment Industry To Set up Operations In India
The chipmaking equipment business is planning to establish its operations in India, as the country appears as a viable option to China amid concerns between Beijing and the West. The worldwide chip industry group SEMI will hold its Semicon show in India for the first time in September.
This exhibition has previously taken place in the United States, Japan, Europe, Taiwan, South Korea, China, and Southeast Asia, as per sources.Several Japanese companies, including Tokyo Electron, Disco, Canon, Tokyo Seimitsu, and Daifuku, are set to attend. Tokyo Electron will demonstrate wafer deposition, coating, and other front-end chipmaking process.
Additionally, American firms including as Applied Materials, Lam Research, and KLA will have big displays at the exhibition. In the past few years, due to concerns with the United States, worldwide supply chains have shifted away from China. Apple is moving production of iPhones and other items from China to India.
In March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for three semiconductor projects costing Rs 1.25 lakh crore. Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) is investing more over Rs 91,000 crore to establish a chip fabrication factory in Gujarat's Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR).
TEPL is establishing an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) plant in Morigaon, Assam, with a total investment of around Rs 27,000 crore for Semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP).
