Dixon Technologies Partners with NxtCell to Manufacture Alcatel Phones
Dixon Technologies announced that it has signed a deal with NxtCell India Private Ltd. to manufacture smartphones for the French brand Alcatel. Dixon's subsidiary Padget Electronics plans to commence manufacturing within the next 12-18 months, according to an exchange filing from the company.
"This strategic association with NxtCell India will further strengthen our manufacturing excellence and execution capabilities...This partnership is engineered to deliver high-performance devices, fortify local supply chains, catalyse employment, and stimulate ancillary industries within India’s burgeoning electronics ecosystem," said Atul Lall, managing director, Dixon Technologies.
NxtCell India, an entirely Indian-owned firm based in Gurgaon, possesses exclusive brand rights from TCL to represent and manage the Alcatel brand in India and certain international markets. Alcatel announced that this collaboration with NxtCell represents its entry into local manufacturing within the Indian market.
Alcatel will be the second smartphone brand to launch in India in the past two years, following Taiwan's Acer, which also revealed intentions to market smartphones in the country through collaboration with Indkal Technologies, based in India.
Alcatel is committing $30 million to re-establish its presence in the India market within the consumer technology sector, introducing a range of smartphones and feature phones, along with ecosystem products, starting in May, as stated by chief business officer, Atul Vivek, in an interview with ET.
