Envoy Kwatra Strengthens India-US Ties in Georgia

India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Kwatra, has strengthened ties with Georgia through talks on trade, investment, education, technology, and innovation, reinforcing the expanding India–US strategic and economic partnership.

Vinay Kwatra, who is India’s ambassador to the United States, has taken forward the strengthening of India-US strategic ties by engaging with various high-level officials of Georgia and the US in order to enhance cooperation in fields such as trade, investment, education, innovation, and technology. These engagements have been carried out in the state of Georgia, US, where Kwatra has met political personalities, businessmen, universities and the Indian diaspora community to discuss ways of enhancing the economic and people-to-people ties between both nations.

One of the major highlights of his tour was the meeting that Kwatra had with the Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp, during which various options for increasing cooperation in trade, manufacturing, high technology, investments, logistics, and innovations were discussed. They agreed upon the fact that there is an increasing presence of Indian companies in Georgia and how Indian companies have been increasingly contributing to the economy of the state in terms of investments, jobs, and technology.

Moreover, the Ambassador interacted with representatives of some of the top universities and institutions to enhance collaboration in the field of education. The focus was on building ties in higher education, research, student exchange programs, skills enhancement, and innovation. Collaboration in the field of research in new technology, medicine, engineering, and artificial intelligence was discussed, with emphasis on the contribution of Indian students and researchers to academic excellence and innovation in the US.

Conversations with the business community and industry players centred around boosting bilateral investments, supply chain development, and cooperation in areas like information technology, manufacturing, renewable energy, life sciences, and digital innovations. Kwatra highlighted India’s growing economy, policies favourable for foreign investors, and the burgeoning ecosystem of startups in India, encouraging American firms to engage more with India. These conversations are consistent with the larger agenda of substantially increasing trade and investment between the two countries under the India-US economic partnership.

The visit also saw meetings with the members of the Indian diaspora, who have been instrumental in building the cultural, educational, and economic ties between the two nations. Kwatra acknowledged the efforts of the community in contributing towards the economic development of Georgia and asked them to keep supporting the process of cooperation between India and the US in the areas of trade, education, and technology.

Both India and the US have been increasingly working together on issues such as trade, defence, critical and frontier technologies, education, health care, and clean energy in recent times. Kwatra’s visit highlights the continuing commitment of India to engage in sub-national diplomacy as a way of deepening its relationship with American states that have economic and technological value.
