Godrej to Manufacture LEAP Engine Parts in India
- Godrej secures 5-year contract to produce LEAP engine components for Safran.
- Involves titanium-based assemblies with advanced manufacturing processes.
- Strengthens India’s aerospace role, aligns with ‘Make-in-India’ vision.
The aerospace division of Godrej Enterprises Group won a five-year contract with Safran Aircraft Engines (a fully owned subsidiary of Safran SA) to manufacture vital components for the LEAP engines that power the next generation of narrow-body aircraft, The Economic Times announced. CFM International (a joint-venture of GE Aerospace and Safran) will benefit from the complex titanium-based ventilation assemblies that Godrej is producing.
Godrej's involvement with the LEAP will include substantial levels of advanced machining, various types of precision welding, and non-destructive testing, all to achieve aviation civil standards. Maneck Behramkamdin, Executive Vice President and Business Head of Godrej's aerospace unit, described the contract as evidence of India's increasing importance in the international market for aerospace items and consistent with the 'Make-in-India' programme.
