HAL Taps BEML, Adani for Light Combat Helicopter Structures

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has brought in BEML and Adani Defence & Aerospace to manufacture fuselage aerostructures for the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH). BEML has secured a ₹184.25 crore order for the work.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has enhanced its production network for the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) by partnering with BEML and Adani Defence & Aerospace in the making of fuselage framework. The initiative aims to boost industrial productivity and reinforce the private-sector production chain in support of India's indigenous helicopter programmes.

BEML received a work order worth ₹184.25 crore from HAL to design and manufacture LCH fuselage aero structures. The order was given on August 11 and pertains to the production of structure parts of the combat helicopter.

This initiative is part of a wider operational system that aims to decentralise manufacturing processes across India's defence production network so that HAL can strengthen its capabilities through partnerships with additional companies.

The LCH, or its name Prachand, is an indigenous attack helicopter intended for employment in high-altitude theatres. The LCH is designed for such operations as close air support, armed reconnaissance, and anti-armour missions.

HAL has been developing its capabilities of helicopter manufacturing at its Tumakuru facility in Karnataka, where the line of LCH production was launched in April 2026. The entry of BEML in the program provides another public sector manufacturing capability. The company works in defence and aerospace, mining, construction, rail, and metro industries which mean it has acquired experience in large-scale engineering and manufacturing.

The involvement of Adani Defence & Aerospace indicates the rising importance of the private sector in India’s aerospace manufacturing. Such cooperation aims at expanding the supplier network and extending the capabilities from traditional state-owned defence manufacturers.

The initiative comes at a time when India is pursuing the goal of enhancing the volume of domestic defence production and decreasing reliance on imports. More involvement of public and private sector manufacturers can help establish the supply chain for the aerospace industry and create more jobs.

In the case of HAL, the large scale of the manufacturing network can be useful for quick fulfilment of helicopter orders and scaling up production. For BEML and Adani Defence participation in the manufacture of LCH gives them the chance to develop their skills in aerospace structures and defence production. The cooperation brings social importance because it reveals the increasing attention to distributed manufacturing and public-private partnership in aerospace sector of India.
