
TVS Supply Chain Boosts Caterpillar Global Network

TVS Supply Chain Solutions has recently enhanced the supply network of Caterpillar worldwide by opening a new warehouse facility near Chennai to support the international sourcing and logistics operations.
This decision points to India becoming a major hub for manufacturing supply chains across the globe. About 40, 000 square feet house the new warehouse at the Free Trade and Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) in Mannur, which is approximately 30 km from Chennai. This new offering ensures that Caterpillar will be in a position to obtain parts from multiple countries and implement an effective logistics system to back its manufacturing facilities all over the globe.
The warehouse is physically located along the Chennai, Bengaluru Industrial Corridor. Ports like Chennai, Ennore, and Kamarajar are easily accessible from the warehouse. These ports together almost handle 20% of India's container traffic alone. Hence components and finished goods can be moved at a much faster pace to different markets globally.
The facility is equipted with approximately 4, 000 pallet positions and its multifunctional layout has been designed to not only enhance the lead times but also to reduce the overall logistics cost and the supply chain flexibility. Thanks to multi, country sourcing and effective inventory management the warehouse will be a significant tool for Caterpillar in minimizing its response time to changing global demand, supply conditions.

Executives from both companies stressed that this partnership will help in making the supply chain more resilient in the face of global trade uncertainties. Leadership from the companies said that integrating the FTWZ model with advanced warehousing capabilities will lead to quicker and more efficient global logistics movements, along with highly dependable sourcing of Caterpillars manufacturing operations.
The collaboration between TVS Supply Chain Solutions and Caterpillar has been deepening constantly during last 5 years. Apart from the new facility, the logistics company also is responsible for the management of Caterpillars external warehouse operations in Hosur and the in, plant warehousing activities, through the deployment of trained staff to production facilities of the company in India.
