Synopsis: Hitachi Energy India announces a ₹2,000 crore investment to establish a large power transformer factory in Gujarat, strengthening domestic manufacturing, supporting energy transition goals, and creating over 1,000 jobs.

Hitachi Energy India is expanding its manufacturing capabilities with an investment of around ₹2,000 crore to establish a new Large Power Transformer (LPT) factory in Gujarat. The facility is being developed in Karjan, Vadodara, and aims to strengthen India’s power infrastructure by supporting the growing demand for advanced electrical equipment.

The new manufacturing facility is expected to play an important role in meeting India’s rising requirement for reliable, efficient, and high-quality power transmission equipment. Hitachi Energy states that the investment reflects its commitment to expanding its manufacturing footprint in India and supporting the country’s long-term energy development goals.

The factory is scheduled to become operational by FY28 and will manufacture large power transformers used in critical applications, including high-voltage transmission networks, renewable energy integration, power generation projects, artificial intelligence data centres, and large-scale industrial operations. The facility is expected to improve the availability of essential grid equipment and enable faster delivery for major infrastructure projects.

The investment further strengthens Hitachi Energy India’s presence in Gujarat, where the company already operates manufacturing facilities for power transformers, dry distribution transformers, and traction transformers. The new plant complements its existing operations and reinforces India’s position as a strategic manufacturing base for advanced energy solutions.

The project aligns with India’s broader energy transition objectives and the government’s focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative. With increasing investments in renewable energy, grid expansion, and electrification, the demand for advanced transmission infrastructure is growing significantly.

The new facility is also expected to contribute to employment generation, creating more than 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities. The project will support skill development and encourage growth in related industrial sectors by strengthening the local supply chain.

The plant is planned as a modern manufacturing facility with advanced technologies, digital capabilities, and a focus on efficiency. It is expected to support the delivery of next-generation energy solutions while improving India’s ability to meet future electricity requirements.

Hitachi Energy’s investment highlights the growing importance of robust power infrastructure in India’s economic development. As the country continues to expand renewable energy capacity and modernise its electricity grid, the availability of advanced transformer technology becomes increasingly important.

The Gujarat facility represents a significant step toward building a stronger and more self-reliant energy ecosystem. Through increased domestic production and technological innovation, Hitachi Energy India aims to support India’s transition toward a secure, sustainable, and future-ready power sector.
