Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company have signed a joint development agreement to commercialise electric three-wheelers in India, targeting the rapidly growing last-mile mobility segment.

Under the partnership, Hyundai will lead design and advanced R&D, leveraging its global engineering capabilities and mobility technologies, while TVS will contribute its electric vehicle platform, manufacturing strength, and deep understanding of the Indian market.

The collaboration focuses on developing electric three-wheelers (E3Ws) specifically tailored for Indian conditions, addressing both passenger and cargo mobility needs. TVS will also handle local manufacturing and sales, with production in India catering to domestic demand and potential exports.

A key strategic element of the agreement is localisation of components, ensuring that major parts are sourced and manufactured within India. This approach is expected to reduce costs, strengthen the domestic supply chain, and generate employment, while also improving after-sales support.

The partnership builds on the earlier unveiling of an E3W concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and now moves toward commercial deployment. Both companies aim to deliver affordable, sustainable, and scalable mobility solutions, particularly for urban and semi-urban transport ecosystems.

From a broader industry perspective, the move aligns with India’s accelerating shift toward electric mobility, especially in the three-wheeler segment, which remains one of the largest and fastest-growing EV categories. The collaboration also reflects increasing India-South Korea industrial cooperation in future mobility technologies.

Overall, the Hyundai-TVS partnership represents a strategic convergence of global technology and local execution, aimed at capturing a significant share of India’s evolving electric last-mile transport market.
