  • India to produce 25% of iPhones by 2025, showing rising global confidence.
  • Foxconn leads Apple’s manufacturing push with major investments and output.
  • iPhone exports and domestic shipments from India are hitting record highs.

Apple's expansion of iPhone manufacturing in India stands as a clear signal of the growing global confidence in the country's production capabilities.

Expansion of production facilities in India is expected to make India the hub for 25% of iPhone production by the end of 2025; practically, Apple could not have more than 1% procured from India even three years ago, at a time when China dominated Apple's supply chain.

The key supplier to Apple, Foxconn, has invested ₹12,700 crores, while other partners like Pegatron and Wistron are also expanding operations. With shipments scheduled in June in commercial quantities, Foxconn's new plant in Bengaluru can quickly ramp up to manufacturing 20 million units per annum.

From being a massive importer of smartphones, India now proudly stands as a mold of a global manufacturing hub. In 2024 alone, iPhones to the extent of $22 billion were assembled in India, with nearly half of Apple's exports coming from Foxconn's Tamil Nadu plant.

The exports from this facility have shot up over 40% on a year-on-year basis. Nearly 20% of all iPhones manufactured globally by Apple today are being produced in India. It is a growing demand from the local market as well, with over 3 million iPhones shipped only in the first quarter of 2025. However, mounting pressure to diversify globally continues, with U.S. President Donald Trump threatening to levy huge tariffs against Apple goods not made in the U.S.

Chandrasekhar on his X account stated, "Thanks to forward-thinking policies like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and sustained efforts by the Indian government, India is fast becoming a global hub for high-tech manufacturing".

"I’m proud to have played a part in strengthening the India-Apple partnership. This is just the beginning", he added.

He also noted, "India is well on track to hit $300 billion in electronics manufacturing by 2027, with $120 billion targeted for exports".
