  • LPG tanker Nanda Devi arrives in Gujarat via Hormuz.
  • Ship carries ~46,000 tonnes, easing supply concerns.
  • Second LPG vessel reaches India in two days.

India got a significant increase in its energy supply when an LPG tanker 'Nanda Devi' reached a port in Gujarat after a successful navigation of the conflict-affected Strait of Hormuz. The vessel's arrival is considered by many a great relief, as there were apprehensions of gas shortages due to the West Asia conflict.

The tanker carrying about 46,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) arrived at the port early on Tuesday. It is the second shipment of LPG to come to India in two days after another Indian tanker Shivalik which also crossed the same route, arrived.

The two vessels were initially delayed near the Strait of Hormuz, owing to tensions and security concerns in the area. Their safe passage demonstrates the coordination of diplomatic efforts and maritime vigilance that allowed Indian-flagged ships to use the sensitive route without problems.

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial international energy passage where a large part of the world's oil and gas supply is transported. A closure in this path had caused major worries for India which is greatly reliant on imports for its LPG needs.

Authorities said that bringing in these cargos will aid in normalizing the supply of domestic LPG, more so when the supply routes have been getting strained due to geopolitical tensions. The new move also showcases Indias continuous commitment to obtain energies through diplomatic means and navy support in dangerous maritime areas.
