
India, Japan to Expand Energy Ties on Carbon Capture, Biofuels

India and Japan have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation on energy, concentrating on carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) and green chemicals, biofuels and advanced technologies in the energy sector.
The agreement was made during a ministerial level India-Japan Energy Dialogue held on Monday by video conference which was co-chaired by Power Minister Manohar Lal and Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Muto Yoji.
The Energy Dialogue will continue both governments' collaboration in the energy space under the Japan-India Clean Energy Partnership to strengthen energy security, support clean energy transitions and address climate change.
The institutional arrangements that have been formalised acknowledge the establishment of bilateral cooperation through the India-Japan Energy Dialogue as well as Joint Working Groups (JWGs) in each of the sectoral areas of interest identified by the two countries.

There was a detailed update on the JWG progress and collaboration prospects by India's ministries of Power, New and Renewable Energy, Oil and Coal during the meeting. Both nations reiterated their commitment to energy security and inclusion.
They welcomed recent advancements in energy efficiency, clean hydrogen and ammonia, and renewable energy, furthermore agreeing to continue working together in CCUS, green chemicals, biofuels, and other emerging energy technologies.
The ministers stated that India-Japan energy partnership shall remain invulnerable to the task of designing secure, resilient, and sustainable energy systems for the Indo-Pacific region. They saw the grounds for a mutual effort to mobilize innovation and cooperation in the attainment of global climate targets, all the while nurturing the ideas of economic growth and a balanced approach to sustainable development.
