
Maruti Suzuki, TN Govt to Automate Driving Test Tracks

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Government of Tamil Nadu that will automate the driving testing tracks in the state.
The MoA is to develop automated driving test tracks, aiming to enhance road safety and improve driving license testing standards. This highlights Tamil Nadu transport’s commitment to driving test automation and advancing vehicle automation in the state.
The partnership is intended to increase the transparency, efficiency, and uniformity of driving tests using technology and automation. The project is anticipated to provide a significant enhancement to the road safety and quality of driver assessment in Tamil Nadu.
The announcement followed Transport Minister S. S. Sivasankar's speech in the 2023-24 Assembly session, in which he announced that the state would automate driving test tracks in 20 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).

Maruti Suzuki India will aid the transformation of or regular driving testing tracks into automated, technologically advanced facilities as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project.
An official statement indicates that the first phase of the project will be implemented in 10 RTOs which will go online in the 2025-26 fiscal year. The agreement was signed at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat with Transport Minister S. S. Sivasankar.
Other officials present included Dheeraj Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department; R. Gajalakshmi, Transport and Road Safety Commissioner; along with senior officials from Maruti Suzuki India - Senior Vice-President and Head of CSR Tarun Agarwal and General Manager (Road Safety) R. Kalyan Sunder.
The new partnership demonstrates Tamil Nadu's creative public-private partnership structure focused on elevating road safety infrastructure through safe travel.
