The conversation took place amid continuing tensions and conflicts across West Asia, a region of strategic importance to India because of its energy supplies, trade routes and large Indian diaspora. The developments have raised concerns about regional security and stability, reinforcing the importance of diplomatic engagement and efforts to prevent further escalation.

Netanyahu also invited Modi to participate in Israel’s upcoming Independence Day celebrations on May 14, 2027, by lighting a ceremonial torch alongside Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar. The invitation was extended during the telephone conversation, highlighting another aspect of engagement between the two leaders.

India and Israel elevated their bilateral relationship to a Special Strategic Partnership for Peace, Innovation and Prosperity during Modi’s state visit to Israel in February 2026. The partnership covers defence and security, emerging technologies, cyber cooperation, agriculture, water management, healthcare, entrepreneurship and research and development. Both countries have also identified opportunities to expand trade, investment and regional connectivity.
