Modi-Rodriguez Talks Put Energy at India-Venezuela Core
Synopsis: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez agree to deepen cooperation in energy, trade, investment, and technology, giving fresh momentum to bilateral relations amid evolving global energy dynamics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez in New Delhi, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across a range of strategic sectors. The meeting marks a significant step in strengthening India-Venezuela relations at a time when global energy markets are undergoing considerable volatility and supply-chain disruptions.
During the discussions, the two leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral ties and explored opportunities to deepen engagement in energy security, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, and renewable energy. The visit is part of Rodríguez’s five-day trip to India, which aims to strengthen economic and diplomatic cooperation between the two nations.
Energy cooperation emerged as a key focus area of the talks. India has significantly increased its imports of Venezuelan crude oil in recent months as it seeks to diversify its energy sources amid disruptions in global oil supplies. Venezuela, which possesses some of the world’s largest proven oil reserves, has become an increasingly important energy partner for India. Both sides discussed opportunities for collaboration across upstream and downstream energy activities, including exploration, production, refining, and distribution.

The leaders also explored avenues for expanding trade and investment. Indian companies are expected to find new opportunities in sectors such as mining, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and infrastructure development. Officials from both countries highlighted the potential for stronger business partnerships and increased economic engagement in the coming years.
Rodríguez’s visit includes meetings with senior Indian ministers, industry leaders, and representatives from the energy sector. The Venezuelan delegation is also scheduled to visit key energy facilities and interact with business stakeholders to identify new areas of collaboration.
The meeting reflects the growing importance of India-Venezuela ties in the evolving global energy landscape. Analysts believe that enhanced cooperation in energy, trade, and investment will contribute to stronger economic linkages while supporting India’s efforts to ensure long-term energy security and diversify its sources of crude oil imports.
