  • Nepal and India to discuss supplying aviation fuel via cross-border pipeline
  • Nepali delegation led by Shivaram Pokhrel to join Joint Working Group meeting
  • NOC imports diesel and petrol through Motihari-Amlekhgunj pipeline

Nepal is in discussions with India about the possibility of supplying aviation fuel via the bilateral petroleum pipeline from Nepal to India, according to government representatives from both countries.

In New Delhi next week, representatives of the two nations will meet to discuss the proposal, according to an official at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.

The Nepal India pipeline is set to enhance aviation fuel supply, strengthen cross-border energy ties, improve fuel infrastructure for the aviation sector, and promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The government of Nepal has approved the attendance of a delegation headed by Shivaram Pokhrel, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, at the 5th Meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Working Group on Oil & Gas Cooperation.

The meeting will take place on Monday in New Delhi, as announced by Jagadish Kharel, Minister for Information and Communications Technology.

The now-defunct State-run Nepal Oil Corporation is using a Pipeline to move products from Indian Oil Corporation. The NOC has been using Motihari-Amlekhgunj Petroleum Pipeline to transport Diesel since 2017 after opening this route, and it was only in March 2025, that the use of the Pipeline was also extended to include Petrol.

Newly proposed negotiations between the parties to extend the application of the pipeline to deliver aviation gas may be a significant improvement for both countries' fuel security and fuel supply for their respective countries.

In addition, these negotiations are also a sign of continued growth in bilateral energy cooperation and integration of Nepal's energy infrastructure with that of India.
