  • Nissan will double production to 200,000 vehicles by FY27, investing $700M in new models.
  • The company remains committed to India despite selling a 51% stake to Renault.
  • New MPV and SUVs launching by 2027 will target both domestic and export markets.

Nissan Motor India ultimately aims to manufacture about 200,000 vehicles annually by the end of FY27, half of which will be destined for exports. On May 28, during a media roundtable, he asserted that Nissan is still committed to India even after selling a 51 percent stake in local manufacturing operations to Renault. The company will invest $700 million in its new vehicle portfolio to be launched during 2025-27.

Production by FY27 is estimated to be twice that of the last fiscal year, when 100,000 vehicles were manufactured at its Chennai plant, of which 72,000 were exported. Nissan will, therefore, continue to manufacture and export the Magnite while preparing for further launches.

Launching would be a B-segment multi-purpose vehicle, with releases of 5 and 7 seater C-segment SUVs set for early 2027. Since the Magnite is being exported to over 65 countries, Vatsa expressed confidence that the new models will follow suit.

Vatsa said, "What is really important to see is that this year, which is one year minus the new products, we have a future runway defined for our network. As Nissan is getting ready to expand its future product portfolio, a lot of new (dealer) partners are now approaching us because they can now see that we are going to grow from one car portfolio to a multiple car portfolio in multiple segments with multiple powertrain options".

He added, "Our dealers and partners will play a significant role in enhancing the product portfolio volumes into the market. This year we will close almost 180 (dealership) locations".
