ONGC Opens India's 1st Automated ASP CEOR Plant at Jhalora
- ONGC launches India’s first automated ASP CEOR project at Jhalora to boost crude oil recovery.
- The project targets 0.598 MMt additional output by FY 2039–40.
- It uses sustainable tech like treated water and dust control for eco-friendly operations.
The ONGC has set a landmark for enhanced domestic crude oil production with the launching of the state-of-the-art Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) Chemical EOR (CEOR) Project at the Jhalora Field in Ahmedabad Asset.
The facility was formally inaugurated by ONGC Director (Production) Pankaj Kumar, reinforcing ONGC's long-standing tradition and experience in applying state-of-the-art enhanced oil recovery technologies on top.
Located in the K-III+IV reservoir, this project shall provide an additional crude oil quantity of 0.598 Million Metric Tonnes (MMt) by FY 2039–40 from the field, translating to an increased recovery of 4.27% from this matured field, which is in direct alignment with India's long-term objectives of energy security and import reduction.

ONGC says this is the next stage of its Chemical EOR Programme which focuses on recovery of hydrocarbons through innovative and sustainable means.
Being the first automated ASP CEOR Plant in the country, the plant has many features like real-time operational controls operation may feel without their subject matter petitioner water effluent treated for reuse for chemical preparation, advanced water filtration, and high-efficiency polymer unit. These systems promote safety, environmental sustainability, and minimal ecological disruption.
A senior ONGC official said, "This is more than just a production facility. It’s a symbol of ONGC’s technological vision, operational excellence, and our unwavering commitment to national energy security".
The CEOR initiative underlines ONGC’s commitment to revitalizing ageing oilfields, supporting India’s net-zero ambitions. As a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, ONGC continues to play a central role in securing India’s energy future.
