
President Murmu Invites Romanian Firms to Invest in India
President Droupadi Murmu invites Romanian companies to invest in India's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, highlighting opportunities in trade, technology, renewable energy, manufacturing, and the India–EU strategic partnership.
President Droupadi Murmu has called upon Romanian businesses to join India on its path of development, pointing out that India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 holds many opportunities for global partnerships and investments and collaborations in technologies. During the India-Romania Business Forum at Bucharest when President Murmu was visiting Romania as part of her State visit to Romania, she pointed out that there is immense potential in increasing economic cooperation.
Addressing President Nicușor Dan of Romania, top ranking officials from both governments, and representatives of companies from both nations, President Murmu said that Romania is a natural and valuable partner for India because of its geographical position, which acts as a bridge between India and Europe, along with the highly skilled labor force and its industrial and technological expertise in Romania, which makes it a great destination for Indian investments. The presence of Indian firms at this forum is also a clear indication of the trust reposed in Romania’s economic potential.

Trade and investment continued to be vital elements of the President’s address. The President emphasized the importance of the recently signed India–European Union FTA (Free Trade Agreement), which she described as one of the world’s biggest economic arrangements, encompassing a total population of almost two billion people and an economy worth roughly US$ 25 trillion. The President said that this agreement will contribute to economic integration, facilitate investments, create sustainable supply chains, and generate new opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups, and innovators. President Murmu also mentioned that there are negotiations going on regarding the India–EU Investment Protection Agreement and Geographical Indications Agreement.
The President of India highlighted the solid economic foundation of the country, saying that India continues to be one of the fastest growing countries in the world due to its robust entrepreneurship ecosystem, reforms, and pro-business environment. The initiatives taken by the government include tax reforms and Production Linked Incentives schemes.
There were several sectors that showed immense promise for bilateral cooperation as per the President. These included renewable energy, green hydrogen, solar energy, sustainable biofuels, nuclear energy, hydropower, chemicals, fertilizers, digital public infrastructure, information technology, cybersecurity, software engineering, transport and logistics, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, and food processing. She pointed out that there were other significant platforms such as India-EU Trade and Technology Council and the newly concluded India-EU Security and Defence Partnership for furthering cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, telecommunication, clean energy, defense manufacturing, and technological innovation.

Mrs. Murmu was confident that the companies from both the nations would make use of such opportunities and transform them into long-term business collaborations that can create jobs, build resilient supply chains, innovate, and ensure sustainable economic growth. The speech re-emphasized the fact that India is committed to engaging strategically with Romania and building stronger economic relations with Europe.
