Synopsis: Tata Motors joins the Centre’s Delhi-NCR vehicle replacement scheme, offering an 8% discount on eligible trucks and buses to encourage the shift from older commercial vehicles to cleaner BS-VI and electric alternatives.

Tata Motors joins the Centre’s vehicle replacement scheme for the Delhi-NCR region, becoming part of the government’s initiative aimed at replacing older commercial vehicles with cleaner and more efficient alternatives. The programme is designed to reduce vehicular emissions by encouraging owners of ageing trucks and buses to transition towards BS-VI compliant and electric vehicles.

Under the scheme, Tata Motors offers an 8% discount on the ex-showroom price of eligible trucks and buses purchased by customers participating in the vehicle replacement programme. For electric vehicles, the discount is applicable up to the level offered for equivalent internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles based on the gross vehicle weight category.

The government initiative focuses on replacing older trucks and buses operating in Delhi-NCR that comply with BS-IV or earlier emission norms. Eligible vehicle owners can replace these vehicles with newer BS-VI or electric models while receiving financial support from the Centre, state governments, and participating automobile manufacturers.

The replacement scheme provides multiple incentives to accelerate fleet modernisation. Along with manufacturer discounts, the Centre offers a 5% interest subvention on vehicle loans for five years and monthly fuel vouchers of up to ₹4,800 depending on the vehicle category. State governments are also expected to provide benefits such as registration fee waivers and motor vehicle tax concessions for eligible replacements.

The initiative targets a large number of commercial vehicle owners across the National Capital Region, where reducing transport-related emissions remains a major priority. By encouraging the adoption of cleaner vehicles, the programme aims to improve air quality while supporting the transition towards sustainable mobility solutions.

Tata Motors’ participation strengthens the role of automobile manufacturers in supporting India’s clean mobility goals. As one of the leading commercial vehicle manufacturers in the country, the company’s involvement is expected to provide customers with greater access to newer technologies, including advanced BS-VI vehicles and electric mobility solutions.

The scheme also reflects the government’s broader efforts to modernise India’s commercial transport sector by combining financial incentives with stricter emission standards. Through collaboration between policymakers, manufacturers, and vehicle owners, the initiative seeks to create a cleaner and more efficient transportation ecosystem in Delhi-NCR.
