Synopsis: Air India and Saudia are expanding their strategic partnership and codeshare agreement to improve India–Saudi connectivity, offering seamless travel, wider destination access, enhanced passenger services, and stronger aviation cooperation.

Air India and Saudia have expanded their strategic partnership through the enhancement of their current codeshare agreement. This has been done in an effort to improve air connectivity between India and Saudi Arabia. It is aimed at providing travelers with more options for flexibility, connectivity, and destination choices as a result of increased demand from various sectors including business, leisure travel, pilgrim travel, and social visiting of families between the two countries.

The enhanced partnership leverages the existing codeshare arrangement announced earlier in the year and provides a phased plan for closer cooperation. As per the new MoU, the two carriers will collaborate to enhance their codeshare network, improve connectivity, and consider co-location of their terminals to make flying easier for their customers. In addition, there is also a provision of discussing cooperation between the two loyalty schemes and customer-centric programs of the two airlines.

The collaboration will ensure that travelers are able to reach an expanded set of destinations through a single journey route by using the combined airline ticket and baggage services. With Air India's presence in its hubs at Delhi and Mumbai and Saudia's network throughout the kingdom, it can be anticipated that the travelers will benefit from better connecting flights and shorter wait time due to more favorable scheduling. The plan will further help the Indian diaspora community in Saudi Arabia, pilgrims, tourists, and businessmen.

In addition to the connection between passengers, both the airlines would be looking at working together on issues such as efficiency, business ventures, and even expansion of their networks in the future. The airlines have also been exploring the possibilities of expanding the venture to other airlines from their group that include Air India Express and fly deal.

Campbell Wilson, who serves as Air India's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, explained that the developing ties between India and Saudi Arabia are presenting numerous possibilities for aviation to facilitate connections between individuals, companies, and economies. The Group Director General of Saudia, Ibrahim Al-Omar, also pointed out the significance of India as a crucial market and said that the collaboration will present travelers with more options and flexibility.

The enhanced partnership falls in line with the Air India’s larger scheme of developing an extensive international network by forming partnerships around the world. The Indian airline has entered into many codeshare and interline arrangements since its privatisation, giving the customer more than 1,000 places to visit across the globe. With the strengthening ties between India and Saudi Arabia, the newly-formed partnership between Air India and Saudia airlines will play a key role in improving connectivity between both nations.
