Air India, Riyadh Air Partner to Expand Connectivity
Synopsis: Air India and Riyadh Air have signed a strategic partnership to enhance air connectivity between India and Saudi Arabia, expanding travel options and supporting growing business and tourism ties between the two countries.
Air India and Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Air have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening air connectivity between India and the Kingdom, reflecting the rapidly expanding economic, tourism, and people-to-people ties between the two nations. The agreement is expected to improve travel convenience, expand network reach, and create new opportunities for passengers travelling across the region.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed during the annual meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in New Delhi. Through the partnership, both airlines will explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation, including interlines connectivity, codeshare arrangements, and coordinated passenger services. The collaboration is designed to provide travellers with greater flexibility and seamless access to destinations served by the two carriers.
India remains one of Saudi Arabia’s largest international travel markets, driven by strong business links, tourism, religious travel, and a large Indian expatriate community residing in the Kingdom. With demand for air travel between the two countries continuing to grow, the partnership is expected to support increasing passenger traffic while strengthening aviation links between South Asia and the Middle East.
Air India, which is currently undergoing a major transformation programme under the Tata Group, has been expanding its international network and modernising its fleet to enhance global connectivity. Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s new national carrier, is preparing for large-scale operations as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a major global aviation and tourism hub.

Officials from both airlines noted that the partnership aligns with broader efforts to improve connectivity between India and Saudi Arabia. Enhanced cooperation is expected to offer passengers smoother travel experiences through integrated booking options, streamlined transit arrangements, and improved access to a wider range of destinations.
The agreement also reflects the growing strategic relationship between India and Saudi Arabia. Bilateral trade, investment flows, and tourism exchanges have witnessed significant growth in recent years, creating increased demand for reliable and efficient air transport services. Aviation experts believe stronger airline partnerships will play an important role in supporting these expanding economic and social connections.
In addition to facilitating passenger travel, the collaboration may create opportunities for future cooperation in cargo operations, operational best practices, digital services, and aviation-related innovation. As both carriers continue to expand their international presence, the partnership is expected to contribute to stronger regional connectivity and support the long-term growth of air travel between India, Saudi Arabia, and beyond.Industry observers view the agreement as another indication of the increasing importance of the India-Saudi aviation corridor, which is emerging as one of the most dynamic travel markets in the region.
