The announcement of ISM 2.0 during the Union Budget 2026-27 established a major development for this project because it allocated ₹1,000 crore to support semiconductor industry expansion and technology independence initiatives for the fiscal year 2026-27.

Ather Energy has actively worked together with the government to develop India's clean mobility system. The company established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) during the previous year to participate in the Build in Bharat initiative, which the Startup Policy Forum operates as a partnership between more than 50 innovation-driven startups.

The partnership provides deep-tech startups with mentorship support while offering infrastructure resources throughout the electric vehicle value chain and implementing joint innovation projects, which include the Bharat Startup Grand Challenge.

The electric two-wheeler segment in India has emerged as the foremost force driving the country's electric vehicle transition, which achieved sales of 11,49,334 units during the fiscal year 2024-25 to record a 21 percent increase compared to the previous year.

FAME Phase II and similar schemes have successfully increased electric vehicle adoption by offering demand incentives and supporting local manufacturing efforts.

The government plans to improve domestic manufacturing capabilities through its India Semiconductor Mission and EV incentive programs, which will create new technologies and drive electric mobility solutions that use sustainable systems.
