Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis invites UK businesses to invest in manufacturing, technology, education and clean energy, with the new partnership targeting stronger trade, investment and job creation.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has invited businesses and institutions from the United Kingdom to invest in the state, highlighting opportunities across manufacturing, technology, education, clean energy and infrastructure. The appeal came during the launch of the Maharashtra-UK Partnership in Mumbai, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and converting investment interest into concrete business projects.

Fadnavis said Maharashtra was building an investment-friendly ecosystem by combining skilled talent, capital and technology. He assured UK investors that the state government would facilitate faster coordination between departments through its ‘Invest Maharashtra’ platform to accelerate project implementation and simplify engagement with relevant authorities.

During discussions with the visiting UK delegation, memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were exchanged to expand cooperation across key sectors. The chief minister emphasised the state’s industrial strengths, identifying Mumbai as a major international centre for finance, trade and entrepreneurship, while Pune remains an important hub for engineering, automobiles, manufacturing and information technology.

Education and research are also expected to play a significant role in the partnership. Fadnavis highlighted opportunities for British universities to establish campuses in Maharashtra and referred to the presence of institutions such as the University of Bristol, the University of York and the University of Aberdeen. Proposed developments, including EduCity, Medicity and AI Innovation City, are intended to bring educational facilities, research capabilities and skilled professionals together.

The state has also identified clean energy, industrial decarbonisation, energy efficiency, water management, sustainable transportation and resource recycling as potential investment areas. Fadnavis said the government would support international companies looking to establish Global Capability Centres and technology research facilities in Maharashtra.

UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds described Maharashtra as an important destination for British companies seeking to expand in India. He stressed that the partnership should deliver measurable outcomes rather than remain limited to formal agreements.

The initiative aims to strengthen commercial links, create employment opportunities and open additional UK markets for Maharashtra-based manufacturers, food-processing businesses, technology firms and small enterprises.
