Goa approves an apparel manufacturing cluster in Honda, North Goa, to produce uniforms, bags and safety apparel. The project is expected to create over 300 direct jobs, mainly for women, and include skill development programmes.

The Goa government has approved a proposal by Brighter Ideas Production and Supplies Pvt Ltd to establish an apparel manufacturing cluster in Honda, Sattari, North Goa. The project is expected to create more than 300 direct jobs, primarily for women, while strengthening the state’s garment manufacturing sector and expanding local employment opportunities.

The proposed facility will manufacture school uniforms, school bags, rainwear, safety apparel and other institutional textile products. These products are intended to meet the requirements of government departments and public institutions, including schools, police departments, healthcare facilities and municipal bodies.

The initiative aims to develop local manufacturing capacity and provide employment opportunities for residents, particularly women. The project will also include skill development and training programmes to help workers acquire the capabilities required for apparel production and related activities.

The Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (Goa-IPB) had recommended the proposal before the state government approved it. As part of the arrangement, the government has agreed to lease an unused 416.16-square-metre civil supplies warehouse in Honda to the company for its operations.

The Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department reviewed the proposal and determined that one of its two warehouses in Honda could be made available, as it was not currently required for operational purposes. Since the proposal involves leasing government-owned property to a private company on a nomination basis, the Finance Department advised that it be placed before the Council of Ministers for approval.

The apparel cluster is expected to support the development of Goa’s textile and garment manufacturing ecosystem by creating a local production base for institutional clothing and related products. Its focus on uniforms and safety apparel could also help meet recurring demand from public-sector organisations.

The project reflects the state government’s efforts to encourage industrial activity, promote employment and make better use of existing infrastructure. With the proposed facility combining manufacturing operations and workforce training, the initiative is expected to create new opportunities for women and other local workers while contributing to the regional economy.
