India approves 12 electronics manufacturing proposals worth over ₹7,500 crore under ECMS and launches the Semicon 2.0 portal to strengthen domestic supply chains.

The Government of India has approved 12 new applications involving investments of more than ₹7,500 crore under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), strengthening the country's domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The latest approvals expand the programme's coverage to include materials and capital goods, alongside components and sub-assemblies, as the government seeks to reduce import dependence and deepen local supply chains.

The announcement was made by Electronics and Information Technology Secretary S. Krishnan on November 6, 2026. The new tranche is intended to encourage investment in critical segments of the electronics value chain, including raw materials and manufacturing equipment. By supporting these upstream activities, the government aims to build domestic capabilities beyond the assembly of finished electronic products and improve the availability of essential inputs for manufacturers.

The ECMS was introduced in April 2025 to attract investments in electronic components, sub-assemblies, supply-chain products and capital goods. The scheme focuses on areas such as printed circuit boards, passive components, electro-mechanical components, camera modules, optical transceivers and manufacturing equipment. Its objective is to create a stronger domestic supplier base and enable Indian companies to participate more extensively in global electronics supply chains.

The latest approvals follow earlier rounds of applications cleared under the programme. In August 2026, the government approved 31 additional proposals involving investments of ₹7,877 crore. Those projects covered 20 product segments, including camera and display modules, connectors, transducers, speakers, microphones, antennas, capacitors, coils, filters, anode materials, rare-earth permanent magnets and capital goods. The approvals were spread across 10 states.

With the August approvals, the total number of sanctioned applications under ECMS had reached 106, representing proposed investments of ₹69,548 crore across 15 states. The approved projects were expected to generate production worth ₹5.34 lakh crore and create approximately 74,628 direct employment opportunities. The programme had also begun translating investment commitments into manufacturing activity, with 38 plants operational and another 16 at advanced stages of construction or machinery installation at that time.

Alongside the latest ECMS approvals, the government launched the Semicon 2.0 web application portal under the Semicon India Programme. The portal is intended to support the next phase of India's semiconductor development initiatives and facilitate participation in the programme.

The ECMS and semiconductor initiatives form part of India's broader strategy to expand electronics production, strengthen domestic value addition and develop capabilities in strategically important technologies. The latest approvals signal continued policy support for investment across the electronics manufacturing supply chain.
